Private label requires double preparation
When approval takes place in two stages
In private label production, the approval of a new ingredient is rarely finalised once you have given your approval. The end customer often has to go through their own process with their own quality requirements, tests and commercial considerations.
We also experience end customers rejecting ingredients from certain countries or areas in advance, even when the quality is the same and the documentation is in place. This applies, for example, to differences in preference between Asian and European ingredients. Such choices can be difficult to predict and mean that extra preparation is required to ensure a plan B that can be approved all the way through.
Approving alternative ingredients can therefore feel like a heavy task to solve. However, we help you make it easier to reach your goal.
The consequences of waiting
We have seen situations where an alternative ingredient was documented and ready at a customer's site, but where the next approval was delayed for months because the priority was elsewhere. When the market changed, the opportunity was gone.
It is not a question of a lack of awareness, but of ensuring timing throughout the supply chain before pressure arises.
As Account Manager Joacim Traeholt says:
- When we work with private label, we consider the entire chain from the outset. This increases the likelihood that a plan B will not only look good on paper, but can also be used in practice.

How we help you through the process
Our role is to ensure that both approval stages – both at your end and at your customer's end – have everything they need in place at the right time.
We do this by coordinating requirements, documentation and schedules, so that nothing slips through the cracks and you avoid delays when decisions need to be made.
We help you by:
- identifying ingredients where double approval may be critical.
- adapting documentation and tests to meet both your and your customer's requirements.
- engaging in dialogue with relevant parties at an early stage, so that there are no surprises when time is short.
- having several alternative suppliers ready where it makes sense if one solution falls through.
Plan B that works when it matters
A plan B only provides security once it has been approved by both you and your customer. With everything in place in advance, you can respond to market changes without losing momentum – and without the pressure hitting the wrong places.
Once both you and your customer have said yes, you can act immediately.
