Calcium chloride E 509
E 509 is the calcium salt of hydrochloric acid which is used as a preservative, which improves the texture and taste properties of foods.
The product is primarily used in the brewery industry where it is added to give beer a rounder, more full-bodied taste. Calcium chloride can also be used in milk for cheese-making where it promotes the curdling process.
