How to assess whether outsourcing is worthwhile
Outsourcing is not just about process and quality. It is just as much about economics, and the key question for many companies is therefore: Is it worth it?
To find the answer, it makes sense to look at the total costs, often referred to as the Total Cost of Ownership. This includes both visible and hidden costs: time, space, staffing and the extra work involved in handling the blends in-house.
Identify all costs and benefits
When considering the potential, it can be useful to look at what the tasks actually require today and what opportunities would open up if they were solved differently.
This may include:
- How many hours do we spend on blending and preparation?
- How much space and equipment do we tie up in production?
- What resources do we spend on training, quality assurance and repetitions?
- What value can we create if time and capacity are used differently?
As Tommy H. Pedersen, CEO of Procudan, says:
- The important thing is not to do everything yourself. The important thing is to use your resources where they add the most value, and to collaborate with others when it strengthens the business.

A process that provides an overview
When we help clarify the possibilities, we always start with your needs and key figures. We typically begin with:
- A project description – what is the task, what quantities are involved, and what goals do we need to achieve?
- A joint checklist – so that we can ensure that nothing is overlooked
- An indicative price – including production, transport, storage and logistics
This gives you a realistic basis for decision-making, where all elements are visible from the outset.
Your key figures are the foundation
You know your own production, so you are in the best position to assess whether a solution will add value to your particular situation.
Our role is to provide an overview, experience and scenarios so that decisions can be made on an informed basis.
- We provide insight and a clear basis for decision-making so that the customer's management can assess how resources and investments can be used most effectively.
